“Well, my years of claiming I had "selective hearing" finally came to an end, I had to admit the fact that I am hearing impaired. As other have testified, Dr. Gilliom is the epitome of what a healthcare practitioner should be. She is gentle, attentive, patient and extremely knowledgeable and made me realize that in my circumstance, hearing loss is pretty common, I was just choosing to deny it. Aside from the fun I had during the testing, I was relieved to find that not only were there little adjustments in my behavior that I could do to improve my hearing, there were several things that those I am close to could do as well. Because the overall process of verbal communication is about both the sender and the receiver, the speaker and the listener, each party has a responsibility to assure accurate communication. It's pretty amazing how much better we communicate when we take ownership of the conversation and are willing to make the effort to hear, or be heard.
